Pollution, stress and an unhealthy lifestyle can also act as triggers for premature graying.

But the main causative factor of premature graying is genetics.

If a family members showed signs of early graying, there are chances that you will to.

Okay, let's go a bit more in depth or shall i say medical.

Our body has a pigment called melanin which is produced in specialized cells called melanocytes. Melanin is responsible for our skin, hair and eye color.

Premature graying can be caused due to many factors, such as stress, hormonal imbalance, nutritional deficiencies and so on. However, the main cause of graying, premature or otherwise, is genetics.

If your parents showed early graying, there are chances that you will too. The lifecycle or melanogenic clock of the melanocytes is dependent on your genes.
It is essential to understand the root cause of your graying.

If it is caused due to an illness, some nutritional deficiency, or even a temporary stressful situation like a surgery, chances are that this will correct itself over time. Once the trigger has subsided, the effect will also go away and the new hair that grows will be dark.

If there have been no such triggers, then the premature graying is probably a genetic tendency.

While there is no permanent treatment to reverse gray hair, you can definitely try to slow down the process by eating nutritious food, protecting your hair from pollution and the sun, and following a healthy haircare regime. Try and remain stress-free and follow an active lifestyle.

You can also use synthetic dyes to cover up the grays.
